Brand Story
I was installing solar power on my own house in 2011 and explaining to my kids that we would save a lot of electricity which in turn would prevent coal from having to be burnt to supply our house with electricity, this sounded good but I figured that if I could get more people to install solar power we could multiply this effect. So I purchased an established solar company in Knysna, namely X-Sun Solar. I chose to rebrand and reinvent the company with the intention of getting as many solar panels on roofs as possible.
We serve clients from all over South Africa
including large industrial clients such as M.A.N. Truck & Bus factory, remote off-grid & micro-grid installations such as the off-grid camps at Hluhluwe/iMfolozi game reserve in KZN to residential clients on Thesen island in Knysna. We have even managed to supply complete off-grid solutions for remote agricultural fruit packhouses and cold storage.
We work according to traditional code of ethics
with a strong focus on under promise and over deliver, as instilled in myself from my days working with employers such as Johnson Controls, Royal Bank Of Scotland & Anglian Water & not least of all discipline, respect & quality craftmanship, from my time in the South African Airforce.
At the face of Blue Planet Power you will meet two Installation electricians (IE’s)
each with over 25 years’ experience, namely Richard Alkemade and Deon Kassebaum. Both are fully registered & licensed for single & three phase power installations. We have a strong focus on training and together with training institutes Belcomec & Africa Skills, we make sure our apprentices gain the necessary skills to qualify as competent electricians with old fashioned values and ethics.
Blue Planet Power has installed Millions of watts of Solar Power
with thousands of solar panels since 2011 which has helped my campaign to keep coal where it belongs… In The Ground. It also helps that electricity is democratized and decentralized, nothing nicer than not having to pay for Eskom’s failures through inflated utility bills.
We have many years' experience with pool heating systems
Imagine having a pool in Knysna, but you can only use it in the summer because it is too cold the rest of the year, our heat-pumps and solar heating systems give the cient 2 options for cost effective ways to enjoy a warm pool or jacuzzi without blowing your electricity budget in winter. A client said that he would switch the heat-pump on at 17:00 on Friday evening and make sure the pool was at least 30degC by Saturday morning, regardless of the weather, this meant his kids could swim any time of the year, his solar panels also helped the system so the heat-pump got the pool warm sooner. Our heat-pumps have a heat to power ratio of 5.5kW heat vs 1kW electricity consumption.
